this season has been highly anticipated ever since season 2 ended, and i just gotta say that it did NOT disappoint. this season not only has all of the murdery, stalker content that we all love, but we also get to delve deeper into joe’s mind; and explore the way he justifies his actions throughout the show. it added a new element to the show, which personally pushed it over season 2 on my season ranking. his relationship with their child adds a new spin on joe’s character. he is implicating not only himself in his crimes, but thinking about the child as well; joe is desperate to keep the baby in a loving home, and not to let him slip into foster care or an orphanage. we also got some more looks into joe’s tragic past, and uncovered more bits of his backstory to unveil why he acts this way. i loved how love also got more character development in this season as she became more of a main character. we often see her rocky relationship with her very unstable mother, dottie, who is still not over the death of forty. don’t set your expectations for a radically different plot too high - everything is pretty much the same. joe (with the addition of love) sneak around and do bad things to their neighbors lives and try not to get caught by said neighbors. it was interesting to see this play out in a suburb as opposed to a city like NYC or LA, which i guess made it a little more fun to watch, as it’s a more confined environment. overall, this was a very very strong season. it was a great addition to the series and i can’t wait to watch season 4 when it comes out. make sure you watch season 3 of YOU on netflix, out this friday october 15th!

my favorite characters:

  • Victoria Pedretti as Love Quinn-Goldberg: so yeah…she’s crazy. but i love her! last season, she was only really the object of joe’s affection right up until the last couple of episodes when she revealed her crazy side. now that we know she’s insane, her behaviors are more obviously erratic and impulsive. we got a lot more solo scenes of her, which i really enjoyed. victoria is such an amazing actress; she does an amazing job at just being extremely unstable but somehow very put together at the same time. love switches between different personalities like a lightswitch, which makes for a very interesting time for joe. she was def underrated in season 2, but love shines in season 3.

  • Tati Gabrielle as Marienne: i love tati gabrielle and i love marienne! she is the only character in this season that i actually feel bad for when something bad happens to her. between the insane ex, joe stalking her, and trying to win custody of her child, she still manages to carry herself well. spoilers for the rest of this character profile!! she also rejects joe several times because she knows he’s still married to love, and that is very respectable, despite the amount of times he tried to convince her that his marriage was practically dead. good for her! i hope she likes paris.

this show is rated TV-MA. here’s why:

  • Violence and Gore

  • Sexual Content and Nudity

  • Language

  • Drug and Alcohol Use

  • Frightening and Intense Scenes

something I liked: SPOILERS AHEAD!! the sequence in the library where Joe and Marianne kiss under the sprinklers is so cute but also very complex from a psychoanalytic standpoint. not to sound like my senior year english teacher, but the water coming down from the sky imitating rainfall creates a visual metaphor for something romantic like kissing in the rain. i thought it was a really cool way to show the beginning of their relationship together by creating that kind of illusion.

number of seasons: 3, season 4 just announced!
