Hate-watching. What exactly is it? No, it’s not the same as a guilty pleasure show. Hate watching is leaning more towards you starting a show and enjoying it, but then as the episodes and seasons go on, they get consistently worse and worse. Maybe the writing gets sloppy, or the acting seems off, but that’s when hate watching comes in. Hate watching has kind of a harsh sound to it, but it can actually be REALLY fun. When you hate watch, it usually involves a lot of yelling at the TV, punching a pillow, even throwing stuff at the screen. It’s a good release, especially when you want to watch something, but you’re not in the mood to actually pay attention to something you like. I’ve found it’s also good for relieving stress - just make sure your parents know you’re screaming at your TV and not a stranger in your house. Here’s a list of 4 shows I love to hate - and why:

Riverdale

Oh GOD. Where do I even start? I was very excited for this show. I started Season 1 with high hopes, but then by the time Season 2 rolled around, I realized how utterly TERRIBLE this show is. Even the cast is aware of how amazingly bad the writing is. Some of my favorite cringey stuff from Riverdale includes: the heathers musical episode, jingle-jangle, the “seRiAl kiLleR geNe”, the word “daddy” being used WAAAYYYYY too much, anything having to do with ethel, and the freakin organ farm?? Honestly, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti, you good? In conclusion: Lakedale is most bestest show.

13 Reasons Why

I did not WANT this show to be terrible. It had such high potential, with a story and characters already cut out for the showrunners. But they just HAD to make a season 2? And 3?? Sweetie, no! I personally didn’t watch season 3, but from what I’ve heard, it’s basically just a murder mystery with softcore porn every episode. Even the way Season 1 (which was the best season) was done was pretty badly. The directors basically romanticized this idea of taking your own life by telling the story of a girl who, by committing suicide, made all her problems “go away” and left a game for the people she left behind. It’s a horrible message. The show also attempts to tackle other issues, such as school shootings, rape, and murder, but they couldn’t even give a good warning against taking your own life. could have been done much better, but now we have the buzzword-filled, “i’m edgy cause i show a girl slitting her wrists”, basically Wattpad fan-fiction show that is 13 Reasons Why.

S3 of The Flash

Don’t you love when one of your favorite shows turns into absolute garbage in between seasons? Me too! Season 1 and 2 of The Flash were great. I loved the characters, the storyline, and everything was just peachy. THEN, there was a natural disaster in the writers room. Oh boy, Season 3 was wild. I was very upset that they basically threw away the ENTIRE Flashpoint idea. S3 would have been a perfect time to explore that whole storyline, but they had maybe 2 episodes dedicated to it and then said “Wait, why are we doing this again?” The writers then went on to take their bad description of Flashpoint and use it as a plot device, so whenever there was an inconsistency or plot hole in the show, they would just go, “Aw man, guess it’s time to blame Flashpoint!” Greg Berlanti, what’s going on? You okay?

Once Upon A Time

This show actually started off pretty good! The first 2 seasons or so were okay, but it started going downhill. However, the absolute worst part was when they introduced the Frozen characters. Don’t get me wrong, I love Frozen, but when Anna and Elsa showed up in Storybrooke, the writing got weird, and everyone started acting out of character. The whole show got thrown out of whack, and became a wonderful hate watch. Just hate watch. Not the fact that there were SO many cute guys in this show. Yep.
