I feel bad for the friend that is on the other side of my text exchanges when I’m talking about Lucas Hedges. I rant about him probably more than Matt Damon, which is a surprise. I adore Lucas Hedges in all of his roles. My favorite probably being him in Manchester By The Sea, where he played a son who lost his father and all the grief that comes with it. That gave him an Oscar nomination and he probably would’ve won if it wasn’t for Mahershala Ali’s explosive performance in Moonlight. Another one of Hedges’s roles that I adore was his role as Ritchie in The Slap, which is an American adaptation of an Australian miniseries. He doesn’t disappoint as a suicidal, gay, teen who gets caught up in a trial that he has nothing to do with. He is layered and I just want to help him. Hedges and Timothee Chalamet have very similar careers highlighted by their similar role choices. They were both in Lady Bird, they’ve both played gay men, they’ve both played drug addicts, and they’ve both been in plays. But I venture to say that I like Lucas Hedges more than Timothee Chalamet which is bound to start a feud or two. But let me just say that Lucas Hedges is my favorite because he sang in Lady Bird and he sang well. Lucas Hedges is one of the best young actors in Hollywood and I hope he wins an Oscar someday, because he deserves it.
