Baby Driver

This movie is so good sometimes I forget that Kevin Spacey is in it. Edgar Wright honestly POPPED OFF writing and directing. I love how he never wrote a scene without having a song in mind for it. The mesh between the actions on-screen with the beat and melody of the music was like an intricate dance, and it was honestly beautiful. Maybe I’m just a simp for old music, but the music choices in this movie were too good. They went really well with the entire 50s aesthetic of the movie, from the diner to the laundromat. Some might say that the characters seem superficial or very stereotypical. You’ve got the quirky and shy lead, the nice girl, the bad girl, the boss. Despite these facades, the writing and actors put their own spin on them, which provides an element of seeing their true motivation and end goal. Though the plot is simple, the intense action scenes make it feel like more than just a heist movie. The car chases were really crazy, and it made the movie a super fun watch, especially for those who like a little danger. I will never ever ever get tired of this movie. It’s such an easy watch, and there are small details that you notice every time you watch (or re-watch). Baby Driver can be enjoyed by all - young, old, or in the middle.

logline: After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

My favorite characters:

  • Lily James as Debora - her singing voice is kind of amazing? she doesn’t sing that much, but the way her voice sounds really encapsulated who Debbie was as a character. i really loved how her character seemed very sweet, but also has a side that isn’t so innocent and cutesy. also, lily james is adorable.

  • Eiza González as Darling - on the other side of the spectrum from lily james’s character, we have darling. she was bad*ss through the entire movie. she’s like who i want to be when i grow up - minus the criminal part, obviously. she was quick-witted, spontaneous, and even though her relationship with Buddy was supposed to be kinda cheesy, i thought they were cute together.

This movie is rated R. Here’s why:

  • Violence

  • Language Throughout

Something I liked: All of the car stunts were absolutely insane! I somehow get an adrenaline rush by just watching the movie. Big props to veteran stunt driver Jeremy Fry, who did most of the steering for the movie.

Where to Watch:

  • Vudu, Amazon Prime, Google Play Store, YouTube, and iTunes for rent or purchase
