A more appropriate title for this movie would be “Chris Hemsworth Kicking A*s for 2 Hours Straight.” Not that I’m complaining about that. Just don’t expect a complex plot or clever dialogue. The writing is kind of sub-par on this one. It was written by Joe Russo, one half of the great producing/directing duo behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and Captain America: Civil War and The Winter Soldier(my personal fave).

Chris Hemsworth delivers in the role of Tyler Rake, who is kind of cold and unattached, basically not caring whether he lives or dies. This character definitely had more emotional weight than most of the ones we’re typically used to seeing Hemsworth portray, further proving the actor’s talent. The ending is left open which I thought was cool, just for the sake of drawing your own conclusions. Extraction was a great, fast-paced, action movie that is perfect for quarantine watching. You know, to give your life more excitement than watching some squirrels fight over an acorn.

logline: When the son of an international crime lord is kidnapped, dark market mercenary Tyler Rake is called in to help him escape.

My Favorite Character:

  • Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake - as i said in my review, rake is introduced as someone who doesn’t really care whether he lives or dies. However, his character development throughout the movie was really interesting, but also really SAD. like, i wasn’t sure if i should be crying or not.

Something I liked: The stunts were honestly amazing. The director of the movie, Sam Hargrave, is a long time stunt/fight coordinator and Hollywood stuntman. He was the coordinator on Atomic Blonde, another movie that has really good fight/stunt sequences, and has worked on many of the Russo brothers’ films including Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. If you give this movie a watch, I would suggest actually watching all of the fight scenes and sequences.

This movie is rated R. Here’s why:

  • Violence and Gore

  • Language

  • Brief Drug Use
