This movie surprised me in the best way possible. Going into it, I had absolutely no idea what it was about, and I was not disappointed. I love how it doesn’t really have a set genre. Is it a rom-com? Sci-fi? Drama? Honestly, I still have no idea and I am very okay with that. This movie will really make you think about life. After watching Palm Springs, I went into a 30 minute existential crisis, no lie. The whole idea of “we’re in a time loop, nothing matters” is super interesting because as a teenager, that’s how I want to live my life. Life should be lived with no regrets. However, this movie led me to kind of rethink that whole mentality. Doing whatever you want, even though it may not have a direct consequence, it will take a toll on you mentally. You can’t just care about nothing; you have to have a hold on real life, with real repercussions. Moving past my slight mental breakdown, this movie was genuinely really good. It found equilibrium in between lighthearted comedy and drama. Samberg and Milioti did an incredible job with their respective characters, and their relationship and overall character development was really sweet and #wholesome. It’s a really good watch. Just be prepared to sit in your bed for at least 30 minutes and think about how life inevitably ends and how we should all be living our lives to the fullest and how COVID ruined all your summer plans.
My Favorite Characters:
Andy Samberg as Nyles - andy samberg is always a win. he’s so goofy, but in this movie he plays a character that’s actually really well rounded and has a great character arc. he also maintains his silliness, and i like how he doesn’t let the comedic side of him go even in the more serious roles.
This movie is rated R. Here’s why:
Sexual Content
Language
Alcohol and Drug Use
Violence
Something I liked: the whole aesthetic of the movie was really chill and vibey. i loved the bright colors, patterns, along with the background of the desert. i also loved the little montage of crazy sh*t that nyles and sarah got into when sarah first entered the time loop. it was really cute and makes me reminisce for pre-pandemic times.
Fun Fact: palm springs holds the record for the biggest sale of a film at the Sundance Film Festival - at $17,500,000.69 (nice), beating the previous record by 69 (double nice) cents.
