Ready or Not whilst sounds very much like a child's film with a family playing a game of hide and seek, this couldn't be further from the truth. The film is original, tense, funny, gripping and shocking, from the second the action starts and Grace draws the dreaded Hide and Seek card, you are kept on the edge of your seat for the remainder of the film, and you never know what to expect next. Every time you think you understand what is going on something happens you realise this couldn't be further from the truth. The comedy in this is very much like Get Out - it’s dark but hilarious with this often used to break up the more tense moments throughout the film. Whilst the best genre to put this film in is horror, it is very loosely a horror, if you are not a horror fan you could still watch this film and enjoy it without having a sleepless night, and by all means you should. This is one of the most unique films released in 2019 and got overshadowed by some of the more major releases with rich privileged families tormenting the poorest among them (see also: Parasite and Knives Out). This is a unique and brilliant film which I can see it picking up a cult following years from now and get the attention is so rightly deserves.

logline: Ready or Not follows a rich family with whom Grace marries into, but to become part of the Le Domas gaming dynasty she must take part in a game, but when she pulls the card Hide and Seek no one is prepared for what ensues - especially not Grace.

My Favorite Characters:

  • Samara Weaving as Grace - her performance as the confused bride is incredible, with her being relentlessly hunted by a psychotic family and still providing some great one liners. Before watching this I wasn't really aware of her, then after watching this, I immediately watched her in Hollywood on Netflix and it solidified her as an incredible actress with incredible range.

  • John Ralston as Stevens - aka the family butler this is a character not shown much in the trailer but that's for the best because it means you don't know what to expect when you see him in the film and trust me, it's for the best.

Something I liked: Whilst I wouldn't go as far as to consider this a comedy film, it is still really good with some big laugh out loud moments.

Fun Fact: The house used in Ready or Not was also the house used in the Adam Sandler film Billy Madison.
