WARNING: spoilers will be in this review! but if you haven’t seen this movie by now, that’s on you and i take no responsibility. Spider-Man: No Way Home was an excellent movie. the problem that always seems to occur with marvel movies is that they seem to lack an emotional pull outside of character deaths, but No Way Home had a lot more character depth and feeling. i love how the writing and themes of the current Spider-Man trilogy have grown and matured along with peter and his friends, with Homecoming playing off light-hearted and mainly comedic, and ending with No Way Home being a lot heavier and darker thematically. now, we’re gonna talk about the most important part of this movie to me, which is the inclusion of andrew garfield and tobey maguire. the surprise (if you can even call it that, cause we ALL knew it was gonna happen) was just as fulfilling as we all hoped it would be, which made the movie even better. it didn’t feel cheesy or just like a fan service, the two actors and their respective villains were a genuinely good part of the movie. even over a year after the release of the movie, people continue to talk about the reveal. it also graced the internet with an andrew garfield renaissance, which i am personally very grateful for. while most of the movies of MCU phase 4 were a little shaky, Spider-Man: No Way Home will go down in history as one of the best marvel movies ever made. it’s heartfelt, funny, and an extremely memorable film.

my favorite characters:

  • Tom Holland as Peter (one) Parker - Tom’s performance was absolutely f*cking phenomenal!! I would even go so far to say that it’s one of, if not the best performance I’ve ever seen in a Marvel movie. I never expect such a large emotional range from Marvel actors (no offense to the many awesome actors of the MCU), but Holland is truly a talented actor. Throughout his three movies as Spider-Man, he has been dubbed the most accurate and realistic portrayal of the character, and all of the praise given to him is absolutely deserved.

  • Marisa Tomei as Aunt May - Oh boy…I’ve had a lot of Marvel deaths hit me hard, but this one was reaaalllly painful. Aunt May was such a rock for Peter, and although I knew that one of the important characters wouldn’t survive the movie, it still hurt so bad! I loved how they gave her character the iconic “with great power comes great responsibility” line, showing the audience that May provides more than just comedic relief, which is how she was mainly portrayed in the first two movies.

this movie is rated PG-13. here’s why:

  • Frightening/Intense Scenes

  • Violence

  • Mild Profanity

something i liked: slightly unrelated to the movie, but the anticipation surrounding this movie was unmatched to any other movie i’ve ever seen. the mystery surrounding the possible inclusion of andrew garfield and tobey maguire created such a frenzy, as well as the crazy cliffhanger at the end of far from home, led to people talking about the movie way before and long after its release.
