Viola Davis

Let’s all bow down to the first African-American thespian to win the Triple Crown Of Acting (Oscar, Emmy, Tony). Viola Davis is phenomenal. There is no other way to say it. She deserves every single award that she’s won and I’m not alone in thinking this. I was aware of Davis’s acting ability for a while, but then I saw How To Get Away With Murder and I was floored. She is amazing and shows us all of the layers and faults of her character. I can’t believe that. She won an Academy Award and a Tony Award for her breathtaking work in Fences, the August Wilson play turned movie.
Viola is also a hard core feminist and her 2018 interview about her regrets in acting in The Help have recently resurfaced during the current BLM movement. The movie was recently trending as the #1 movie on Netflix even though it “hasn’t earned much respect in the #BlackLivesMatter community”. Please support the effort and DO NOT WATCH The Help to learn and educate yourself on racism and white privilege. Instead, take a look at our BLM recommended viewing list, which includes a fantastic movie I recently reviewed, Do The Right Thing.
Viola Davis is probably one of the best actresses working today and you should go watch everything she’s been in, EXCEPT The Help ;)
