logline: Will Hunting has a genius-level IQ but chooses to work as a janitor at MIT. When he solves a difficult graduate-level math problem, his talents are discovered by a professor, who decides to help the misguided youth reach his potential. When Will is arrested for attacking a police officer, the professor makes a deal to get leniency for him if he will get treatment from therapist Sean Maguire.
My favorite characters:
Matt Damon as Will Hunting - Math Damon, I just want to make that pun. But seriously, this performance is wonderful. It shows all the nuances of troubled youth and how hard it is to change. He gives a beautiful performance that should’ve given him the Best Actor Oscar (I’m coming for you, Jack Nicholson). But at least, he won Best Original Screenplay along with his pal, Ben Affleck.
Robin Williams as Sean Maguire: The late great actor, Robin Williams gave a performance of the century as Will’s therapist. If Dead Poets Society was Robin Williams dipping his toes into dramatic movies, Good Will Hunting submerges him. He disappears into his character yet it is so distinctly Robin Williams. This won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and oh man he deserved it.
This movie is rated R. Here’s why:
