Jojo Rabbit

Taika Waititi is a f*cking legend. This satire of WW2 has such a great balance of humor and emotion, and it’s just so unlike any other movie I’ve ever seen before. The many different perspectives and opinions shown through the characters is so interesting. If I could list all the characters as my favorite, I would. Even Waititi’s Hitler. They were all just so funny in their own ways, and there was plenty of character development to go around. Even though this movie is mainly a comedy, the sentimental moments are really sweet, and made me cry

a little (read: a lot). There were some really #wholesome parts, and it was generally a great movie. Just make sure you have tissues.

logline: When Nazi-in-training Jojo finds a Jewish girl hidden in a secret room in his house, his first thought is to immediately turn her in. But after threatening his mother with imprisonment, the girl convinces Jojo to keep her secret. Jojo strikes up a reluctant friendship with the girl, who’s name is Elsa, in order to find out possible hidden secrets about the Jewish way of life. However, as he and Elsa become closer, will he abandon Hitler’s cause for friendship?

My favorite characters:

  • Scarlett Johansson as Rosie - MAMA SCARLETT BACK AT IT AGAIN. she’s such a bada*s in this movie. It’s super interesting to get the perspective of a german who was not a supporter of Hitler’s cause. it’s not something you usually see in such a large part of the movie, and i think johansson did a great job in the role.

  • Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf - easily the funniest character. everything he did was hilarious. i also love the fact that he wasn’t just the comic relief, and had some really important moments.

  • Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo - he’s baby. also he’s so freaking talented!! he was so amazing in this movie, which was his first professional acting role. jojo was truly the embodiment of character development. i’m excited to see what davis does in the future.

This movie is rated PG-13. Here’s why:

  • Violence

  • Language

Something I liked: Elsa and Jojo’s friendship. So pure and one of my favorite parts of the movie :)

Where to Watch:
