The Bourne Identity

Experience the gritty world of the Bourne Identity with some serious bone-crunching action. Literally, you can hear so many bones crunching. But it seems like it’s really happening. It makes you feel like you’re in the fight with him. It’s such an immersive experience that you never have with action movies. The technology feels realistic too. The security cameras seem to do things that normal security cameras do. Which is a huge step up from normal action thrillers where all of the technology can be changed to fit the plot. Thanks to Doug Liman’s frantic and choppy direction, you have the same sensations that Jason Bourne has. Which is dissociative amnesia. He makes the James Bond of the era look campy as heck. He’s a bad*ss assassin with a serious set of skills. He wanders through the movie wondering what the heck happened. It’s like Memento, but less creative. The most used words in the movie are probably who, what, where, why, how, and I don’t know. Despite the mental capacity akin to Dory, Bourne still remembers everything that the plot requires. Such as how to weaponize every piece of stationery, super bribery, and license plate numbers. But he can’t recall who he is. This film made the world realize that the kid from Good Will Hunting can kick some serious ass. And that’s a great thing.

logline: A man is picked up by a fishing boat, bullet-riddled and suffering from amnesia, before racing to elude assassins and attempting to regain his memory.

My Favorite Character:

  • Matt Damon as Jason Bourne: duh. I mean he’s Jason Bourne and he won’t let you forget it. Though he usually does. This movie solidified Matt Damon as an action star and that’s awesome. But turns out his name isn’t Jason Bourne after all. I’m not going to say what it actually is because I don’t want to spoil it. He’s just so heckin cool that you love following his story.

Something I liked: the fight scene where Bourne weaponizes a pen. He straight up stabs people with stationery and it’s so cool. You can hear every bone crunch when Bourne breaks the opponent’s bones. When Marie is watching on in horror as Bourne is seriously injuring this guy. But if you learn how to use a pen as a lethal weapon, that’s when you’ve reached action movie awesomeness.

This movie is rated PG-13. Here’s why:

  • Violence and Brief Gore

  • Mild Language
