oh boy. someone needs to remind me why this show got the hype that it did; because it REALLY didn’t deserve it. Netflix usually hits the mark with its original shows, but this one is just not up to their normal standards. I wish the 10 and a half freaking hours I put into this show could be refunded because it was honestly a waste. Watching this show was basically 15% actually looking at the screen and paying attention, and the other 85% screwing around on my phone/computer. Cursed is kind of like Game of Thrones, if Game of Thrones had less gore, less sex, and was 20 times slower. None of the characters or storylines were worth getting invested in. The actors were mediocre, minus Katherine Langford, but even her performance was questionable. She did what she could with her character, but Nimue was boring as hell and has a major case of “I’m the hero, so let me sacrifice myself”-itis. Also, she’s really….not the best actress? She keeps getting the worst roles in the worst shows (13RW, i’m talkin to you). In truth, Langford may be a great actress, and I liked her in Knives Out, but these Netflix shows that she stars in just ain’t it. The story was extremely predictable, which made it even harder to watch. Something I will give this show is the fact that it has LGBTQ+ and biracial relationships, which were really adorable. That, and the fact that Langford has a cute dress and an English accent are the only redeeming factors of this show. If I’m being completely honest, it was probably one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s possible that there are people out there that would truly enjoy Cursed, but I am not one of those people. Netflix, you’re no HBO. Stick to what you know, loves.
My Favorite Characters:
Lily Newmark as Pym - literally the only character i actually cared about in this godforsaken show. she was clueless most of the time, but she was funny, and very heartfelt at times. i actually enjoyed her arc, but since cursed is a show about freaking nimue, pym didn’t get the screentime she truly deserved. #justiceforpym
Billy Jenkins as Squirrel - even though he was a literal CHILD, he was probably one of the more bada*s characters on the show. he always fought for what was right, which was really nice to see from a kid. i mean, slap him into 2020 and he’d be a refreshing change from all the kids playing fortnite. (not to sound like a boomer, very sorry)
