there are going to be some spoilers in this review, so read at your own risk. so i went into this series expecting to be scared out of my mind, and unable to sleep. instead, i got TEARS. SO MANY TEARS. if you’re not openly weeping by the end of the series, there’s just…..something wrong? the haunting of bly manor wasn’t just about ghosts. it was also about how loss can affect your realities, especially with younger children such as Miles and Flora. having Peter and Rebecca’s souls possessing the children’s bodies is kind of the way the show is telling the audience how after experiencing such trauma as both your parents dying, it can cause outbursts of uncharacteristic behavior. they took an effect of real like trauma, and incorporated it into the show, which was a really nice touch from the showrunners. also, i had NO idea that there were so many hidden ghosts. if you watch the show, make sure you keep an eye out for them. i looked up a list of every hidden ghost, and good god it’s so much scarier when you realize that they’re HIDDEN in plain freaking sight!! i would HIGHLY recommend the haunting of bly manor. it’s such a good show, it’s not that scary, and it gets very emotional very quickly, so prepare yourself.

My Favorite Characters:

  • Victoria Pedretti as Dani Clayton - she deserves the world, i think. she was so sweet and kind throughout the entire show, and her fake british accent was literally the most adorable thing ever. the way she was so willing to do the most for Flora and Miles just shows how good of a person she was. she could’ve turned and ran based on the events of episode one, but she stayed committed, which is really cool.

  • Rahul Kohli as Owen - pun KING! his relationship with the kids, especially Flora, was the way that every girl wants their boyfriend to be like. boys, take notes from owen. he wasn’t afraid to say what was on his mind, especially with his feelings for hannah, which was so really sweet. he was vulnerable, but also strong for the rest of the characters, even when he was at his weakest moments. spoilers for right now, sorry. HE AND HANNAH DESERVED TO BE TOGETHER AND BE HAPPY. I AM SO UPSET BY THE WAY THEIR RELATIONSHIP ENDED. that has been in my mind since i finished the show, and will haunt me probably forever.

This show is rated TV-MA. Here’s why:

  • Violence and Gore

  • Language

  • Drug and Alcohol Use

Something I liked: alright, this section is gonna have spoilers, so please look away!! alright, i was NOT expecting this show to have an LGBTQ+ couple, but i was very pleasantly surprised to see one!! and what a couple it was. jamie and dani were the cutest couple, and to see them get together was the sweetest thing ever in this supposed horror show. it was also really cool to see how their healthy relationship contrasted with the relationship that rebecca and peter had, who as we know had a pretty toxic and unhealthy relationship.
