Dead to Me

Tragedy, comedy, horror, or psychological thriller?? This show seems to be a mix of it all. Some may call it a dark comedy but I feel like that turns people away. The storyline follows Jen Harding as she tries to get justice for her husband who recently died in a hit-and-run. She meets Judy, another character also dealing with grief, at a support group and they oddly hit it off. You may think that everything is sunshine and rainbows from here, but NOPE. Major plot twists ensue. The rocky road of grief, anger, and guilt manifests itself differently for everyone and this show does well diving into how multiple characters deal with it. There are very raw moments and sometimes ones that are hard to watch. On the contrary, the humor will leave your stomach hurting. Even though these episodes are 30 minutes, so much can be packed into each one. Even by the end of the first episode I was left with my jaw dropped- literally. Is Judy really who she says she is? What actually happened to the husband? Hurry and binge-watch Season 1 of Dead to Me before Season 2 comes out in May! (Also did I mention that James Marsden is in it!!) Anyways, #femalefriendshipftw

logline: A series about a powerful friendship that blossoms between a tightly wound widow and a free spirit with a shocking secret.

My favorite characters:

  • Christina Applegate as Jen Harding - she is definitely bada*s, running around and writing down license numbers of every car with a “person sized dent.” this show does a great job of showing this character as more than a grieving widow! her bluntness shows through in literally the first few seconds, which is something that pulled me in.

  • Linda Cardellini as Judy Hale - she is very very mysterious. her quirks add a good lightness to the show, however, as her secrets uncover, we truly get to see how complex of a person she is. though they are complete opposite, I love the female friendship that develops between her and Jen.

This show is rated TV-MA. Here’s why:

  • Sexual Refences
